This paper, “The Voice of a President: Donald Trump and Hate Speech”, analyzes Donald Trump’s social media communication, focusing on the former U.S. president’s insult politics and anti-science rhetoric. There are analyzed, in particular, Trump’s tweets, “Commander-in-Tweet” according to KAMPS (2020), from which emerges a performative use of the social media now known as X, used not only to share information but also as a tool of government. For the U.S. tycoon, political communication on social media was a -successful- opportunity to contribute to the already strong polarization of the confrontation, including within institutions and not only within U.S. society, in which, moreover, there are already numerous fracture lines. The first part focuses on the Trumpian rhetoric of conspiracy and the former U.S. president’s use of social media. The second part details Trump’s communication skills through the former Twitter, a real tool of government during the years of his administration, culminating in the assault on Capitol Hill at the hands of some of Trump’s troublemakers. The third part analyzes the anti-science sentiment advocated by Trump. Social media, like X, are a tool for shrinking the globe and make information sharing immediate. But they can also be used to manipulate public opinion, as the Trump case shows.

Abstract
But they can also be used to manipulate public opinion, as the Trump case shows.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
